43 year old Jan Zimmermann has been appointed as the new head coach of the Borussia Dortmund Under-23s. The Hanover native signed a contract until June 30, 2024 this Wednesday and already oversaw his first training session with his new team in the afternoon.
Zimmermann started his coaching career as a player/manager at 1.FC Germania Egestorf/Langreder, whom he guided into the Regionalliga. Seven years later he moved to TSV Havelse, where he achieved promotion to the 3.Liga and won the Niedersachsenpokal. In 2021, Zimmermann was the coach of his hometown club Hannover 96.
Ingo Preuss, the U-23 sporting director, said: “We’re happy that we could win over Jan so quickly and that he is already preparing the team for the important home game against Saarbrücken on Saturday.”
