Jonas “Jonny” Wirth is the 2024 champion of Virtual Bundesliga!

Jonas “Jonny” Wirth is the 2024 champion of the WOW Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) individual player competition. In the final leg of the VBL Grand Final by WOW 2024, which wrapped up the twelfth season of the eSports competition, he beat RB Leipzig’s Levy “levyfinn” Rieck with an overall score of 8:1. All matches were played using EA SPORTS FC 24.

“The fact that I am also winning the individual championship after claiming the VBL Club Championship is truly incredible. Now I’m really looking forward to the World Cup and my first participation in the eChampions League. The day couldn’t have gone any better!”, said the 18-year-old after he accepted the VBL trophy at Cologne’s Straßenkicker Base. With the win, he secured prize money of 40,000 euros as well as qualification for the FC Pro World Championship from EA SPORTS, in which the best players from other national leagues and other international tournaments compete for the FC Pro World Champion title. He also receives a starting place for the UEFA eChampions League. Wirth qualified directly for the VBL Grand Final via the VBL Club Championship by WOW.

Jörg Höflich, Head of Virtual Bundesliga at DFL: “On behalf of DFL, I warmly congratulate Jonas Wirth and SC Paderborn 07 on winning the title. He played a remarkable VBL season, in which he initially won the club title with his team and has now also secured the trophy as an individual player. At the end of the season, which has given the competition an enormous boost in development, I would like to thank all participating players, clubs and partners for their commitment!”

The VBL Grand Final saw 32 players meet in an offline event, having already qualified via the VBL Club Championship and the VBL Open play-offs by WOW. The prize money pool totalled €100,000.
