Jonas Kersken to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach on permanent basis!

Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Kersken has agreed terms on a permanent transfer to Arminia Bielefeld, where he has spent the 2023/24 season on loan.

“Jonas has made the most of his loan spell at Bielefeld and earned himself a place as a starting goalkeeper in the 3. Liga. His permanent transfer to Arminia is a good solution for all parties. We wish Jonas all the best for the future,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia’s managing director for sport.

“My discussions with Borussia Mönchengladbach have always been open and respectful. I am grateful that we have found a solution and that Arminia Bielefeld have been able to sign me permanently. I would like to thank Borussia’s head of goalkeeping, Uwe Kamps, for his constant support,” says Kersken.

Kersken joined the Foals as an 18-year-old from Rot-Weiss Essen in the summer of 2019. He played a total of 35 games for Gladbach’s U-23s in the Regionalliga West in the years that followed, while also featuring in the first-team squad for a number of friendly fixtures. The goalkeeper has been sent out on loan in each of the last two seasons. After appearing in ten third division matches for SV Meppen in the 2022/23 season, Kersken suffered a shoulder cartilage tear which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. He has played 37 league games thus far for Bielefeld this season, as well as featuring between the sticks in four cup ties.
