Kiko Ramirez: Want to make Odisha FC one of the best teams in ISL!

After joining the pre-season practice in Goa, Head Coach Kiko Ramirez has stated that he has an aim to make Odisha FC one of the best teams in the Indian Super League. The 51-year-old Spaniard has come into the League for the first time and in his first interview with the Club’s digital team, he has praised the country and the people here.

He greeted ‘Namaste’ at the start of the interview and said, “It feels really great to come to India. I can see a great attitude in the team and I love the people here.”

“Of course, I have a lot of friends and coaches who have come here before and have imparted training here in India. I speak to many of them and they have always said good things about the League and particularly, about the club, and because of that, I wanted to come here.”

When asked about his prior knowledge about the ISL and if he has watched some of the matches of the League before, Coach Kiko responded, “I had other options to come to India before for different clubs so I know the league and watch different games. When we were appointed by the club, both of us watched a lot of matches to know more about the players playing here. We saw the matches and know where we need to improve. We now have good references about the competition.”

Born in Tarragona, Spain, Ramírez had started his footballing career with Gimnastic’s youth team and was then promoted to the senior side. He had also represented many other clubs in Spain including Sabadell, Malaga, Ceuta, Cartagonova among others before deciding to hang his boots and taking up coaching.

Speaking about the development of youth players, he asserted, “Being a former player has definitely helped me to understand the young players. Also, I was coaching U19 teams and B teams of professional clubs in Spain before becoming the Head Coach. So, this experience of being a former player and coaching youth teams will help me develop the young players. At Odisha FC, we have a lot of young players, a lot of talents and they need guidance.”

The Juggernnauts are going to start their campaign against Bengaluru FC in the upcoming season of the ISL which will be played inside a bio-secure bubble again in Goa. The Head Coach was asked about his objective for the season and what the fans can expect from him and his team in the coming days.

The gaffer explained, “For me, the minimum objective now is to make a strong team not only inside the pitch but also outside the pitch. We want to be as good as possible.”

“Before establishing the final model of our game, now we are watching the players. We need to adapt to the players we have. First of all, we are watching the team and we will try to build a model soon. I am pretty sure, the fans will be happy. They will see an attractive team and attractive matches. We will be competitive for sure.”

“We want to put Odisha FC in the top part of the League, among the best teams of the ISL and that is our objective. We are going to work everyday for that and we are going to work really hard to try that the fans feel proud of the team and for our work,” Coach Kiko Ramirez concluded.
