Kochi chosen as venue for Indian Super League – Season 3 final!

Indian Super League logoThere is good news for God’s Own Country – Kerala and especially the City of Kochi as their Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will be the host of the final of the Indian Super League – Season 3 on Sunday, December 18.

The passion and fervour for football in Kerala has been unmatched in the country with fans supporting their home club Kerala Blasters FC with fanatical intensity. Kerala’s long tryst with football has led to the State producing renowned footballing stars for the country. Kerala has contributed immensely to the growth of football with a continuous supply of young talents representing the nation.

The 2016 session of the Indian Super League has reached close to 200 million television viewership as of November 26. The season also has brought forth a large pool of young emerging Indian football talents to the fore, showcasing the technical as well as tactical ability to compete at the highest level.

Founder & Chairperson of the Football Sports Development Limited Nita Ambani attributed the decision to award Kochi as the host for ISL-3 finals to “Kerala’s passion and love for the beautiful game.”

“Kerala has been the bedrock of Indian football. It is one of the few States in the country where interest in football is unparalleled. I have always been intrigued by the pride and passion of the football fans in Kerala.”

“We felt that awarding the prestigious final of ISL 2016 to Kochi would be an apt ode to the State’s contribution to Indian football,” Nita Ambani added.

After Mumbai in ISL-1 in 2014, Goa in ISL-2 in 2015, now in 2016 it is the turn of Kochi (Kerala) to host the final of the Indian Super League after other cities in Kolkata in 2014, Chennai in 2015 and Guwahati (NorthEast) in 2016 had hosted the opening match of the Indian Super League.
