The AIFF Emergency Committee has formally approved the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata as the venue for the joint 2022 FIFA World Cup/2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifier between India and Afghanistan on June 9, 2020.
The Saltlake Stadium had witnessed the India vs Bangladesh match on October 15 last year which had ended in a one-all draw with over 50,000 spectators present for the match.
Under Igor Stimac, India have not had the best of qualifiers with three points from five matches with two losses to Oman besides draws against Qatar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
