LaLiga at the fore in first edition of World Football Summit in Madrid!

World Football SummitThe World Football Summit (WFS) – a two-day event bringing together around 650 professionals and representatives from companies, football clubs and institutions – got up and running on the morning of Thursday, October 27 in the Spanish capital Madrid. This conference provides a setting for movers and shakers from the football world to discuss subjects such as foreign investment, the application of TV rights and the role of ethics in the game, among others.

Javier Gomez, LaLiga’s corporate managing director, helped to kick off the WFS by taking part in a debate alongside Miguel Angel Gil and Maheta Molango, respectively the CEOs of Atletico Madrid and RCD Mallorca. The conversation centred on investment in football clubs and LaLiga’s achievements in improving the state of Spanish football.

“Four years ago there was talk of uncertainty and insecurity in relation to everything associated with the football world. The standout measure we took at LaLiga was to introduce a brand-new financial system of the sort that had never been implemented before in Europe,” Gomez explained.

Gil thanked LaLiga for its far-reaching efforts, which have boosted Spanish football’s position on the global stage and attracted big investors: “LaLiga’s hard work doesn’t just apply to the finances, it goes much further than that. LaLiga is working hard to stamp out match-fixing, which tarnishes football, to change fans’ habits and to improve security in stadiums, among many other things.”

Gomez also alluded to the impact of the new Regulations on Television Broadcasts, which are another step forward for LaLiga. “We’re working hard to improve the level of television broadcasting and learning how to protect it. We have the best product and must showcase it.” Molango added, “The aim is for profits to rise, beyond what happens on the pitch. If LaLiga grows and becomes increasingly globalised, we’ll receive more revenue thanks to television broadcasting rights which will make us develop further.”
