The Spanish LaLiga organised numerous screenings of the country’s biggest football match, the El Clasico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, around the world with India’s New Delhi being one of the venue’s.
The NSIC Grounds in Okhla, New Delhi was all decked up for the El Clasico public viewing on a cool, but pleasant Saturday afternoon and evening in the Indian capital.
As per my estimation around 15,000 fans of the Galacticos and Blaugrana gathered to watch a crucial encounter so early on in the LaLiga season with Barca 11 points ahead of their archrivals Real Madrid, who just last week had won the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup, but it was clear that a home loss would take Madrid out of the title race.
The match would not disappoint then after a goalless first half, things got moving in the second session with Luis Suarez first giving Barca the lead, then defender Dani Carvajal handled the ball on the goal line to be send off and Lionel Messi made no mistake to make it 0-2 for the Catalans and defender Aleix Vidal made things even worse for the hosts as FC Barcelona went on to win the tie 3-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Meanwhile in New Delhi, both set of fans enjoyed the match until FC Barcelona went ahead and it became a party for the Barca fans, while the Real Madrid fans were a much more subdued lot knowing that the title defence of their club was somewhat over.
LaLiga had put an impressive show together in Delhi with a giant screen besides numerous small one’s across the venue and televisions in the VIP Lounge for everything to watch and enjoy the El Clasico. In former Delhi Dynamos head coach Gianluca Zambrotta, a former Barca star was also onground with a lot of interactivity for the fans and the LaLiga trophy as well as the 20 LaLiga club home shirts on display.
