Leon Klußmann returns to Borussia Dortmund!

Borussia Dortmund’s U-23s have reacted to the injury sustained by goalkeeper Tiago Estevao and signed the out-of-contract Leon Klußmann. The Essen native previously wore the Black & Yellow jersey from 2015 to 2021. He helped BVB become a German B-Junior (U-17) champion in 2018 and a German A-Junior(U-19) champion in 2019. Klußmann penned a contract until June 30, 2025 on Monday, February 5.

“I’m totally ecstatic, still know everything here very well and am delighted that I can train with a team again,” said the 21-year-old. He left BVB for FC Kray in the Oberliga Niederrhein in January 2022. He then transferred from the club in the suburbs of Essen to the Fortuna Düsseldorf reserves six months later, where he made 14 appearances and kept five clean sheets in the Regionalliga West. Last summer, he signed with Hessen Kassel in the Regionalliga Südwest, where did not make an appearance after suffering an injury and agreed to dissolve his contract with KSV in the winter.

“We’re delighted that we were able to reach an agreement with Leon Klußmann so spontaneously after the loss of Tiago Estevao. Leon has already shown in the past that we can rely on him and he didn’t hesitate for a second when we approached him,” said Ingo Preuß, the sporting director of the U-23s, reflecting on the young goalkeeper’s transfer.
