A life-long Mohun Bagan fan, Anjan Mitra, who was a chartered accountant by profession, joined the club first its finance secretary before becoming its honorary secretary in May 1995.
He held the post until October 2018 and exited before the club elections with his long-time friend Swapan Sadhan ‘Tutu’ Bose taking over the role after a bitter feud.
During his time at Mohun Bagan, the club had success in winning the old National Football League thrice, the I-League, the Federation Cup and other trophies.
But towards the end of his tenure financial problems grew as the partnership with McDowell’s broke down and finding new partners and sponsors became difficult.
