Löw names Germany squad for FIFA World Cup qualifier in San Marino & friendly in Italy!

DFB logoGermany coach Joachim Löw has named his 25 player Germany squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in San Marino on November 11 and the international friendly against old rivals Italy in Milan on November 15.

Getting their maiden call-up to the Germany squad are Benjamin Henrichs (Bayer Leverkusen), Yannick Gerhardt (VfL Wolfsburg) and Olympic Silver medallist Serge Gnabry (Werder Bremen), while young Leon Goretzka (FC Schalke 04) gets his first call-up since 2014.

Amongst those left out of the senior squad is Mesut Özil (Arsenal FC), who is getting a break by Löw; André Schürrle (Borussia Dortmund) and Antonio Rüdiger (AS Roma) are still recovering from their recent injuries, so are allowed to stay with their own clubs, while Leroy Sane (Manchester City) stays with the Germany Under-21 squad.

Germany coach Joachim Löw said, “We are taking the last World Cup qualifier this year just as seriously as the previous three. Our goal has to be to beat San Marino and increase our lead at the top of our group. At the same time, we want to give young players the chance to prove themselves at an international level. We will see Serge Gnabry, Yannick Gerhardt and Benjamin Henrichs play. We have taken note of their good performances over the last few months and they all deserve the call-up.”
