Manchester City CEO Soriano in India, but no immediate plans for Indian football!

Manchester City FC and City Football Group CEO Ferran Soriano on Friday, January 5 night was a special guest to witness the Indian Super League match between Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City FC in the Steel City and he got to watch a cracker on an ISL game in the 2-2 draw.

But according to Ferran Soriano in a half-time interview with Arjun Pandit of Star Sports, the City Football Group are looking and observing the Indian football market but they have no immediate plans for an entry into the market.

English Premier League leaders Manchester City through their holding company City Football Group headquartered in London are active in six markets through club ownership of Manchester City FC – England (100%), New York City FC – USA (80%), Melbourne City FC – Australia (100%), Yokohama F. Marinos – Japan (20%), Girona FC – Spain (44.3%) and Club Atletico Torque – Uruguay (100%).

Soriano said in the TV interview when asked about India and an entry by the City Football Group, “Yeah, who knows, not immediately but India is a major opportunity for football. Because there is talent, there is passion and we are very positive about development of football in India.”

“And this is why we are here, we want to watch football, we want to see players, we want to meet people,” said Soriano, a former vice-president at Catalan giants FC Barcelona and Spanair CEO.
