Manvir Singh on target as Mohammedan Sporting beat RCF Kapurthala 1-0!

Mohammedan Sporting Club rode on Manvir Singh’s second half strike to beat Rail Coach Factory of Kapurthala 1-0 in their third fixture of the All India Mau Nagarpalika Gold Cup 2016 at Faizabad Sports Complex in Varanasi on Friday.

Mohammedan Sporting began the game in attacking mode and created a few chances early on. French striker Alexandre Tabillon was the first to go close but his effort from inside went inches over the crossbar in the 13th minute.

As the half progressed, Mohammedan Sporting kept on pushing forward and had several chances in front of the rival goal but the RCF defence stood firm as the teams went into the breather tied goalless.

The second half completely belonged to Mohammedan Sporting. The Black Panthers made the first attempt on the RCF goal in the 47th minute through winger Sheikh Faiaz who did well to control the ball on the right side before shooting towards the goal which missed the target by a whisker.

Mohammedan Sporting’s persistence finally paid off as they pulled ahead just past the hour mark when Manvir slotted home the opener after being set up by midfielder Kunal Ghosh.

Thereafter, Mohammedan Sporting dominated much of the proceedings but failed to increase the tally despite having some good chances as the scoreline remain unchanged at the full time.

Mohammedan Sporting, who are on seven points from three matches, would take on Kolkata rivals Railway FC next on Sunday, December 25.
