Matthew Ryder KC will join the Premier League Board as an independent non-executive director after clubs unanimously voted in favour of his appointment. He will begin his new role next week.
Matthew’s appointment completes the League’s five-person Board, which is composed of Chair Alison Brittain and independent non-executive directors Mai Fyfield, a former media executive, technology venture capitalist Dharmash Mistry, alongside Chief Executive Richard Masters.
Matthew is a highly regarded senior barrister and part-time judge and has led trial teams in cases at all levels including the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights.
When appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2010, Matthew was recognised for his work in both civil and criminal fields.
During his three-decade career, he has also served as Deputy Mayor of London, leading on social integration, social mobility and community engagement.
Other appointments have included a role on the Prime Minister’s review of “Racial Bias and BAME representation in the criminal justice system.”
Matthew is an experienced INED and Trustee, working extensively with organisations such as the Scott Trust.
