Midfielder Hugo Boumous announces his departure from FC Goa!

Indian Super League franchise FC Goa are losing one of their most influential players in French-Moroccan midfielder Hugo Boumous, who announced his departure on social media.

The 25-year-old Rennes-born Hugo Adnan Boumous had joined the Gaurs in January 2018 as a replacement for Manuel Arana and went on to be a vital cog in the team. His blistering form in the 2017/18 season helped the Gaurs seal a spot in the ISL playoffs with two goals and two assists that season. He then went on to become the top scorer for the side in the 2018 Super Cup, where the Gaurs bowed out at the semifinal stage.

The 2018/19 season saw the Frenchman score three goals in addition to five assists as the Gaurs marched their way to a runner-up finish. The Frenchman then played a pivotal role in FC Goa’s triumph in the Super Cup, helping the club land its first piece of silverware.

The 2019/20 season saw the best Boumous so far scoring 11 goals and 10 assists besides a very successful partnership with Ferran Corominas upfront.

Hugo Boumous earlier in the day wrote on Instagram:

Dear Goa,
I would like to announce that my journey with @fcgoaofficial is over. It has been a hard decision to made.
I’m Grateful to have represented the colours and the state of Goa across India ???? @indiansuperleague
Thanks for all the love I received from the fans during the 2years spending with you.
It’s been an absolute pleasure working with all the staff and teammates these time. So many memories for the rest of my life and I’ll always have you in my heart. Special mention to our fanbase @gaurarmy @fcgoafanclub @eastlowerarmy for ur extraordinary support. I wish the club nothing but the best for the future.
Hugo

But FC Goa reacted with a denial that Boumous was no longer an FC Goa player by saying, “The club would like to state that Hugo Boumous continues to remain a contracted player with FC Goa. There is no agreement that has been reached with any other club on the same.”

“At this moment, the club would like to distance itself from any communication that may claim otherwise.”

So it is expected that Boumous would leave the club and likely head to rivals Mumbai City FC for a transfer fee to rejoin his former coach Sergio Lobera, who is set to join the Islanders, but the announcement is still pending.
