Midfielder Sahil Tavora joins Portugal’s GDSC Alvarenga!

Goan midfielder Sahil Tavora has left Indian shores to try his luck in Europe by joining Portuguese third division GDSC Alvarenga.

Sahil announced his somewhat surprise move abroad on his own social media. He becomes one of few Indian footballers who have tried their luck in European club football.

22 year old Goa-born Sahil Tavora started his football at the erstwhile Brasil Futebol Academia in Goa before moving on to the Sesa Football Academy.

He developed at the Sesa Football Academy and in 2013 caught the eye of Goan giants Dempo SC, where he spend three seasons, first with their youth teams and then the senior team in the Goa Pro League and I-League until the club pulled out in 2015.

In 2016, Indian Super League franchise FC Goa signed Sahil Tavora under the U-23 players quota, but he only made one appearance. In 2017 Mumbai City FC signed him, but he only played 520 minutes across eight games even picking-up a red card against Delhi Dynamos.

Tavora has represented Goa (India) in the Lusophonia Games football competition in which the team won gold.

Now Sahil Tavora tries his luck abroad in a lower division in Portugal, which will surely make him better as a footballer but one needs to wait and see how much game time he will get at GDSC Alvarenga.
