Minerva Punjab FC appoint Sukhwinder Singh as Technical Director!

I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC have appointed former India coach Sukhwinder Singh as the Technical Director for the upcoming 2018/19 season.

The Mohali-based club who are gearing up to defend their I-League title are also set to represent India in the upcoming AFC Cup tournament having left no stone unturned as they have managed to rope in some impressive domestic talents along with the luring Japanese snipper Yu Kuboki from Australia’s Sydney Olympic FC and having another few International’s on their radar.

Sukhwinder Singh is a house hold name in Punjab and Indian Football having guided JCT to a famous inaugural 1996/97 National Football League win and having managing teams like Pailan Arrows, Churchill Brothers etc. The veteran tactician’s notable achievements include the 1999 SAFF Cup win with the Indian Senior Team and the 2009 SAFF Cup win with the India U-23 team.

Minerva Punjab FC owner & director Ranjit Bajaj said, “Instead of bringing foreign coaches we should actually get people who have been involved with Indian football. He has been overlooked for a long time but he has still so much to give to Indian football. We are happy that Sukhi Sir has agreed to come onboard.”

Back in March 2018 when Minerva Punjab FC won the I-League title, Sukhwinder Singh had stated, “a team from Punjab is finally filling up the void left by JCT. Minerva is a much needed boost, it was necessary for Punjab football. It will motivate the boys in the state to do well as they now have a platform to prove themselves.”

Born in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, Sukhwinder Singh is a vital addition in the Minerva Punjab FC’s management and would shoulder the responsibility of building up a competative team to defend the I-League title and AFC Cup challenge. The 69 year old will jointly work with current technical director Surinder Singh and Coach Sachin Badadhe.
