Minerva Punjab FC made it to their fourth consecutive U-15 Youth League final with a 2-0 victory over Shillong Lajong FC in the semifinals of the Hero Junior League.
After an unbelievable 6-0 win in the group stage against Aizawl FC, Minerva Punjab FC took on Shillong Lajong FC in the first semifinal of the Hero Junior League at Kalyani Stadium. Minerva Punjab FC started the game playing high temp and keeping the major share of the possession. Tangva Ragui got close to scoring in the 10th minute with a volley that was saved by the opposition keeper. Himashu Jangra got a chance to put Minerva Punjab FC ahead in the 30th minute courtesy of a cross from the left flank but his shot was saved by the keeper. Just before the half time whistle, Maheson took a low shot which went past the keeper to give Minerva Punjab FC a 1-0 Lead at the half-time.
Shillong Lajong FC came out in the second half attacking but Minervan defense stood rock solid. However, in the 53rd minute, a very soft penalty was awarded in favour of Shilling Lajong FC. Just when everyone thought that Shillong Lajong FC will have their equaliser, Abujam Penand Singh stretched to save the penalty to maintain Minerva Punjab FC’s one goal lead. There was no looking back for Minerva Punjab FC from here. They maintained their composure and started pushing Shillong Lajong FC into their own third with constant high pressing.
In the 70th minute, Himashu Jangra beat his marker to rise above everyone and nodded into the Lajong FC goal to give Minerva Punjab FC a lead of 2-0. The last 20 minutes Minerva Punjab FC played out with maximum possession to see off the game. The match finished with a score of 2-0 in Minerva Punjab FC’s favour.
With this win, Minerva Punjab FC are into the final of the Hero Junior League and will play Bengaluru FC. Minerva Punjab FC has won the tournament for last three years and will be looking to add the fourth one to their trophy cabinet.
