Mizoram FA to forgo 2020/21 Mizoram Premier League season!

The Mizoram Football Association has come to the conclusion to forgo the 2020/21 Mizoram Premier League season due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The Executive Committee of the MFA had already declared that it will hold a discussion regarding the upcoming season as well as the immediate future of the league with the MPL Clubs. This discussion was held today, January 19, in which both the MFA and MPL clubs draw to the conclusion of forgoing the 2020/21 season.

The discussion covered possible scenarios of finishing a league campaign as well as the challenges that would arise with conducting a league season amidst the fluidity of possible situations during a pandemic. The scheduled time frame for conclusion of the current season on May 2021 also gives a limited window for a successful domestic league season.

Clubs also reported the various problems faced due to Covid-19, as well as the possible difficulties in following the government SOP in regards to training as well as playing the league. And with the health and safety of players as well as officials and necessary personnel taking priority, and taking into consideration the congested nature of the remaining season, the discussion concluded in forgoing the Mizoram Premier League for the 2020/21 season with a view to playing a normal 2021/22 season.
