Mizoram Independence Cup: Chhinga Veng FC beat Electric Veng FC, set-up final with Aizawl FC!

Defending champions Chhinga Veng FC made no mistakes against neighbours Electric Veng FC as they came out on top in a 2-0 victory in the second semifinal of the LG Independence Cup 2018. Last season’s treble champions will face I-League side Aizawl FC in the final.

Chhinga Veng FC enjoyed a bright start in the eagerly anticipated match up with in-form attacker M.S. Dawngliana posing a threat for Electric Veng FC’s backline early on. Electric Veng FC for their part, looked to carve their opponents on the counter, only for their build up play to be let down in the final third.

The defending champions eventually took the lead in the 36th minute when Lalrinchhana netted from a free-kick.

Electric Veng FC pushed for an equaliser right from the start of the second period and they came close only for Zomuanpuia to fail to make the most of his opportunity. It was Chhinga Veng FC who found the net again when Lalthlamuana scored from a rebound on the 62nd minute. M.S. Dawngliana’s shot was parried by Electric Veng FC custodian Vannunmawia but only as far as Thlatea who finished with aplomb.

It went from bad to worse for Electric Veng FC as they went down to 10 men late on when defender Zomuana was sent off, which made it more easy for Chhinga Veng FC to close the game out.

The final of the LG Independence Cup 2018 will be played in AR Lammual on Independence Day at 4pm.
