I-League champions Aizawl FC showed their mettle to end the incredible unbeaten run of 22 games by Chhinga Veng FC with a 2-0 victory at the Lammual Stadium in Aizawl.
A good run of form from Aizawl FC in phase 2 has seen them climb the Mizoram Premier League table into second place, collectig 10 points in their last 4 matches.
Aizawl FC took the lead in the 16th minute with a strike from H. Lalmuankima. The winger finishing off a delivery freom Albert Zohmingmawia.
Chhing Veng FC had chances to level the score through Lalkhawpuimawia, M.S. Dawngliana and K. Lalthlahlova but displayed poor finishing which would ultimately cost them.
Laldampuia and Vanlallawma went close for the I-Day Cup champions in the second half but a brilliant display between the sticks from Aizawl FC keeper Avilash Paul denied them an equaliser.
A late goal from substitute Jonathan Lalrawngbawla ensured Chhinga Veng FC’s unbeaten run would end at 22 games.
