Mohun Bagan SG defeat East Bengal FC 3-1 in exciting Kolkata Derby!

Mohun Bagan Super Giants moved to the top of the Indian Super League – Season 10 table with a 3-1 Kolkata Derby victory against East Bengal FC 3-1 at the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata.

Mohun Bagan keeper Vishal Kaith committed a foul on Cleiton Silva in the 12th minute which led to a penalty but Kaith redeemed himself by making a spectacular save to deny Cleiton Silva and East Bengal an early lead.

The game thereafter moved to the other end of the field with Mohun Bagan pressuring their opponents. In the 27th minute, a Dimitri Petratos shot was parried forwards by keeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill and an alert Jason Cummings pushed in the Mariners lead.

In the 36th minute it was again Mohun Bagan in attack, first a Petratos attempt hit the post but then on the rebound he found a free Liston Colaco, who put the ball into an empty net to double the Mariners lead.

In the second minute of first half injury time, Nandhakumar brought down Liston Colaco for a Mohun Bagan penalty. Petratos stepped up, keeper Prabhsukhan got a hand to it but the ball still went in for a 3-0 half-time lead for the Mariners.

For East Bengal FC the second half was a question of character.

Mohun Bagan immediately had an opportunity to make it four but the Cummings attempt was parried away by Prabhsukhan.

In the 53rd minute, an East Bengal long ball found Saul Crespo and with his accrobatic attempt he reduced the deficit to 1-3.

With Mohun Bagan happy to defend their lead, East Bengal had more of the ball but a Cleiton Silva header in the 63rd minute was saved by Vishal Kaith.

There was late controversy as Abhishek Suryavanshi brought down P. Vishnu in the box, but rather than giving a penalty, the referee handed the East Bengal substitute a yellow card.

In the end, Mohun Bagan won the latest Kolkata derby with a 3-1 against East Bengal FC.
