Mongolia FF Grassroots Month brings new meaning to indoor football!

The Mongolian Football Federation (MFF) organized their annual Grassroots Month in November with a twist – by holding the entire campaign in halls.

The decision to convene the month-long indoor celebrations was due to the weather, which saw winter temperatures dropping to 20-30 degrees Celsius, and limited infrastructure.

This year’s Grassroots Month was also scheduled for November to instill in children a deeper love and appreciation of football ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Despite the challenges, however, the MFF co-organised the campaign with 21 provincial football federations, 24 member clubs, government agencies, NGOs, stakeholders and nationwide schools. All in all, Grassroots Month featured 156 schools and 16,256 students participating in tournaments and related activities in 101 indoor venues.

Grassroots Month revealed how regular programs are essential for development and the importance of ensuring nationwide government support and increasing public awareness. It also brought to light areas for improvement which included the lack of equipment and human resources in the form of coaches and tutors.

MFF General Secretary Terbaatar Dambiijav said: “The MFF will make every effort to develop child-centered football to develop the world’s number one sport in Mongolia, a country with a vast territory. This year’s Grassroots Month, I believe, has also demonstrated to provincial administrators the importance of building infrastructure for the future.”
