Moritz Nicolas extends Borussia Mönchengladbach contract until 2029!

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas’ contract, which was originally set to expire on June 30, 2026, by three further years until June 30, 2029.

“Mo has repaid the trust we’ve put in him with superb performances, so he’s fully deserved this long-term contract extension,” said Borussia’s managing director for sport Roland Virkus. “We’re very pleased to be so well-stocked in the goalkeeper position.”

Nicolas moved to Mönchengladbach from Rot-Weiss Essen in 2015. After ten league games for the Foals’ U-19s, the netminder featured 75 times for the U-23s in the Regionalliga West. He then spent time out on loan at 1.FC Union Berlin (2019/20, one Bundesliga game), VfL Osnabrück (2020/21, one 2. Bundesliga game) and Viktoria Köln (2021/22, 31 3.Liga games). Nicolas briefly returned to Mönchengladbach at the start of the 2022/23 season and made his competitive debut for the Foals in a 9-1 DFB-Pokal first-round win at SV Oberachern.

Shortly afterwards, he joined Dutch second-division side Roda JC Kerkrade on loan until the end of the season, where he appeared in 30 league games. In summer 2023, Nicolas returned to Borussia, and this time stayed put. He began the current season as the number two, but has started every Bundesliga game for the Foals since Matchday 3 following the injury to Jonas Omlin. He has shown himself to be a reliable presence for his side between the sticks in his 22 Bundesliga and two DFB-Pokal games so far this season.
