The lighting experience at the Allianz Arena will now include the Esplanade. Effective immediately, 16 new, extra-large LED balloon lights will illuminate the main access route to FC Bayern’s home stadium. The Zumtobel Group, a partner of the record champions, developed and produced the lights in accordance with a design from Herzog & de Meuron, the main architects in the construction of the Allianz Arena. The lighting company already produced the effect lighting for the interior of the arena in 2019.
The current outer appearance of the balloon lights will be retained. At the same time, the maintenance costs will be reduced, and the lighting improved. The special lighting solution will also serve as a signposting system – to guide visitors from the car parks and the U-Bahn as well as indicating service points. The brighter and uniform illumination of the Esplanade will also provide more security for FC Bayern evening fixtures.
Andreas Jung, FC Bayern München AG executive board member: “Even during the coronavirus pandemic, FC Bayern is working intensively and steadily to offer its fans the very best. We are all longing for the day when a big crowd will be allowed back into the Allianz Arena, subject to hygiene requirements. We are preparing for that time and look forward to when our fans have the opportunity to enjoy the new lighting along the Esplanade.”

Modern and elegant, these lights fit in perfectly with the landscaping of the Esplanade. The aesthetic created in combination with the outer façade showcases the overall architectural work of the Allianz Arena.
