Here are the nominees for Best Women’s Forwards of the Year!

Alicia Cervantes consistently filled the scoresheet for Chivas, scoring 17 goals in each tournament in 2021. That was good enough to make her the second-top scorer in the Clausura and the golden boot winner in the Apertura.

Ashley Hatch won NWSL’s Golden Boot award, scoring 10 regular-season goals for Washington Spirit and helping the team to the title with a stoppage-time winner in the first round of the playoffs. That earned her a place on the NWSL’s Best XI.

Christine Sinclair captained Canada to the gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo and also earned hardware with her club, the Portland Thorns, winning the NWSL Shield, NWSL Challenge Cup and the Women’s International Champions Cup.

Deanne Rose played all six of Canada’s games on the road to the Olympic gold, hitting the tying penalty in the final shootout. After closing out her University of Florida career, Rose signed with Reading and had two goals in 2021 in the FA Women’s Super League.

Kennya Cordner continued to stand out abroad in 2021. The veteran Trinidad and Tobago attacker had two goals for Sandviken in Norway’s top flight before moving to Fenerbache’s newly launched women’s squad.

Khadija Shaw scored 22 goals and had seven assists in 20 matches for Bordeaux in the 2020-21 season, earning the Golden Boot. She then moved to Manchester City where she scored three times in 2021 across all competitions. She also suited up for Jamaica in an October friendly draw with Costa Rica.

Margaret Purce netted nine goals for Gotham FC in the 2021 season, plus scored another pair in the NWSL Challenge Cup. For the U.S., she scored her debut goal in a January friendly against Colombia and added another in the summer. Purce also helped the U.S. to the 2021 SheBelieves Cup crown.

Melissa Herrera averaged a goal every two games with Stade Reims in the French league, scoring eight goals in 16 matches. She later moved to Girondins Bordeaux, playing in three Champions League contests, scoring in one.

Stephany Mayor helped Tigres to the Clausura 2021 title, with 10 goals in that tournament, and added another 13 as Tigres took second in the 2021 Apertura. She also continued to excel with Mexico, scoring four goals in friendly matches.

Trinity Rodman was named the 2021 United States Young Female Player of the Year. She became the youngest player to be drafted into the NWSL and helped the Washington Spirit win the league, winning rookie of the year behind six goals, the league lead in assists (6) and the second-most shots on goal in the NWSL.
