NorthEast United FC score late to hold Kerala Blasters to 2-2 draw!

Kerala Blasters faced NorthEast United FC at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim with the Highlanders scoring a late equalizer in an exciting 2-2 draw.

The world was shaken by the unexpected demise of footballing legend Diego Maradona. Both teams paid homage to the passing of the footballing great by wearing a black band on the sleeves throughout the match, while a minute of silence was observed prior to the start of the match.

Kerala Blasters head coach Kibu Vicuna fielded the team in a 4-3-3 formation and the Blasters kicked-off the match in style. A well placed header into the top corner by captain Sergio Cidoncha in the 4th minute opened the scoresheet. The Blasters showed good intent as they scored another goal through a penalty by Gary Hooper in the 44th minute which was received for a deliberate tackle against Lalthathanga Khawlhring by Rakesh Pradhan inside the box. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Blasters.

The second half started with Albino Gomes being the busier of the two goalkeepers as he worked hard to preserve the 2-0 advantage for the majority of the game, but unluckily a goal each from Kwesi Appiah and Idrissa Sylla for the Highlanders in the 50th and 90th minute equalized the game.

Kerala Blasters next face their archrivals Chennayin FC this Sunday, November 29, while NorthEast United FC take on FC Goa a day later on November 30.
