NorthEast United FC sign Brazilian defender Gustavo Lazzaretti for ISL-3!

NorthEast United FCIndian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC have signed Brazilian centre-back Gustavo Lazzaretti de Araújo for the upcoming third season of the ISL.

32 year old Gustavo Lazzaretti was born in Curitiba and spend most of his youth career with local side J. Malucelli Futebol before making a big move to Chelsea FC in 2003, but he never played for the first team of the Blues and thereafter became a journeyman.

He returned to Brazil in 2004 to play for Botafogo before trying his luck in Italy on loan with Udinese Calcio and Treviso. In 2006 Gustavo again returned to Brazil to sign for Atlético Paranaense, who in his six seasons with the club send him away on loan to Vitória Guimarães in Portugal, Sport Club do Recife and Al-Sharjah in the UAE.

In 2012 Gustavo signed for AA Ponte Preta but after two years he rejoined his first club in J. Malucelli Futebol and then in short succession Associação Portuguesa de Desportos and EC Água Santa before now coming to India, his stint in Asia.

NorthEast United FC say about their latest signing that Gustavo brings with him vast experience and the trademark Brazilian “flair”.
