Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC have announced the signing of Brazilian playmaker Marcelinho for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
34 year old Rio de Janeiro-born Marcelinho Leite Pereira played for Flamengo in his youth. Before coming to India, Marcelinho also played for Atletico Madrid B, FC Getafe B, Vitoria SC, Tombense, Ipatinga, Kalamata, Skoda Xanthi FC, Baniyas SCC, Catania Calcio, Atromitos Athens, and Anapolis FC.
Then Marcelinho came to Delhi Dynamos in 2016 and took the club to the ISL semifinals, then spend time with FC Pune City and their follow-up franchise Hyderabad FC before returning to the Dynamos new franchise of Odisha FC last season.
Mid-season Marcelinho then joined ATK Mohun Bagan last season. This campaign Marcelinho then joined promoted I-League side Rajasthan United FC but with the I-League suspended, he moves back to the ISL by joining the Highlanders.
The Brazilian magician has 33 goals and 18 assists to his name across in the five seasons in the ISL, which he will now want to improve on.
