NorthEast United FC sign Mohun Bagan playmaker Katsumi Yusa!

NorthEast United FC - Katsumi YusaIndian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC have roped in Japanese playmaker Katsumi Yusa on loan from Federation Cup champions Mohun Bagan AC.

Famous for his tenacity on the football pitch added with an exceptional ability to play across the front line, the Japanese veteran of Indian shores is a fan favourite at Mohun Bagan, and his vast popularity has gathered him fans across the Indian footballing landscape. The hugely passionate NorthEast United fans will undoubtedly have a popular figure in the galleries to cheer for this season.

Libero Sports assisted in successfully closing the Katsumi deal for the former I-League and current Federation Cup champion Mohun Bagan with NorthEast United FC.

On his first association with the ISL, Yusa commented saying, “I’m really excited to be playing in the ISL and especially for NorthEast United. They have showed great faith in me and I will do my best to help them achieve their goals. I also cannot wait to play in front of the amazing NorthEast fans, and that excites me a lot. I thank NorthEast United and all my friends at Libero Sports for believing in me.”

Excited about the new addition to family, NEUFC owner John Abraham said, “It feels amazing to welcome Katsumi Yusa to NorthEast United Football Club. I have personally followed his game in the past few years and am completely convinced he can make a difference in critical situations. His work ethic is outstanding and he is a very nice boy. I feel he will be the bridge between our Indian lads and the foreign players.”

Explaining further about the critical role Yusa would play in the club, Ardeshir Jeejeebhoy, Director of Football, NEUFC said, “In the Indian Football scenario, Katsumi Yusa is a name that needs no introduction. Participating in key championships like Federation Cup, AFC Cup and the I-League, he has always risen to the challenge. His leadership abilities will be an asset for the team. With his appointment, we are affirmative that we have a player who will put in more than 100% on the pitch.”

Katsumi Yusa made his senior debut in the year 2007 for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J-League Division 1. After spending time with Zweigen Kanazawa and FC Gifu Second, Katsumi spend a season with San Lorenzo of Paraguay before he joined ONGC in January 2011, scoring his first goal in India against Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on April 9, 2011. Joining Mohun Bagan AC on May 1, 2013, Katsumi has established himself as a vital and strong midfielder for the Mariners.
