Three Oceania Football Confederation match officials have been appointed to officiate at the 2024 Paris Olympic Football Tournaments.
New Zealander Campbell-Kirk Kawana-Waugh has been announced as one of the referees for Paris, while his compatriot Isaac Trevis and Solomon Islands Bernard Mutukera will be assistant referees.
The FIFA Referees Committee has appointed 89 match officials (21 referees, 42 assistant referees, 20 video match officials and six support referees) from 45 countries to officiate matches at the Olympic Football Tournaments in Paris.
The Paris Olympic Games will be the third global tournament for Kawana-Waugh after the Waikato-based referee last year also officiated at the FIFA U-20 men’s tournament in Argentina and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Mutukera also officiated in Argentina after earlier appearing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2019.
Trevis will travel to his second global event after appearing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2019.
The women’s tournament will commence on 25 July and conclude with the gold medal match at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 10 August. The men’s competition will begin on 24 July, while the gold medal match will take place on 9 August, also at the Parc des Princes.
While the Olympic Football Tournaments Paris 2024 are this year’s flagship football competitions, for the selected match officials they represent the next important step on the road to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™.
Referees in both the women’s and men’s tournaments will be supported by goal‑line technology and the VAR system, including semi‑automated offside technology.
