Odisha FC hold Chennaiyin FC to goalless ISL stalemate!

Odisha FC and Chennaiyin FC played a 0-0 draw in their 10th game of the ongoing Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Sunday. It was an attacking start for both the teams as there were entries into each other’s boxes in the first couple of minutes.

Chennaiyin FC got the first real chance in the second minute with Rahim Ali getting into the penalty area. However, Arshdeep Singh came up with a brilliant save to deny them the lead.

In the seventh minute, Jerry Mawihingthanga passed the ball to Nandhakumar Sekar on the left flank. However, the latter’s penetrating ball for Jerry was cleared away by Chennaiyin FC defender Jerry Lalrinzuala. Four minutes later, Jacob Tratt came with a brilliant tackle and took back the ball from Lallianzuala Chhangte who was in a dangerous position on the left flank.

After a few attempts by Chennaiyin FC players to score, Odisha FC had a good chance in the 35th minute with Vinit Rai finding Diego with a good ball forward. The Brazilian tried to lay that off for Daniel Lalhlimpuia but it was eventually cleared by Enes Sipovic.

In the 41st minute, Jerry tackled Diego and went into the referee’s book. The resulting free-kick was first saved by Vishal Kaith but it fell near Cole Alexander. The South Africa international found Diego with a long cross and the latter managed to put the ball past the keeper as well. However, he was offside and the assistant referee’s flag went up.
Chennaiyin FC got two back-to-back chances in the injury time before the half-time but Arshdeep was brilliant on both the occasions and restricted Chennaiyin FC from taking the lead before the break.

After the game resumed, Jerry got a brilliant cross from the right from Tratt in the 52nd minute. He, however, chipped the ball straight into the hands of Vishal Kaith. Manuel Onwu was brought in as a substitute in place of Daniel.

Odisha FC also got more chances in the 74th and 84th minutes of the match but couldn’t capitalize on that. Odia boy Shubham Sarangi was also given a chance in the injury time in place of Nandhakumar but there was hardly anything created in the last few minutes of the match.

Four minutes into the stoppage time, Rahim Ali made a solo run into the Odisha FC box but Gaurav Bora came up with a timely tackle to ensure the Kalinga Warriors get their first clean sheet of the season.

Odisha FC will again play Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday, January 13 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim in their 11th game of the seventh ISL.
