Odisha FC Women displayed an impressive performance in a Group B match of the IWL 2023, defeating Lords FA Kochi 5-0 at the Shahibaug Police Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 7. Despite the Kerala team’s solid defense, the Juggernauts were determined to secure the points and did not allow their opponents to create any chances to score.
In the 17th minute, Sweety and Karthika combined for a one-touch passing play that found Bala in a good position, but she failed to keep her shot on target. The Juggernauts continued to pressure their opponents, and in the 29th minute, Bala made a perfectly-timed pass to Karthika, but the shot was saved by the keeper.
The Juggernauts finally broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Jasoda dribbled past a defender and crossed the ball into the box, which was fumbled by the keeper. Cynthia pounced on the loose ball and headed it into the net. In the first-half stoppage time, Jasoda and Bala took a free kick, and although Jasoda’s shot was saved, the keeper fumbled once again, and Bala found Faustina, who doubled the lead.
Odisha FC continued to dominate in the second half, and their pressure paid off in the 63rd minute when Faustina scored the third goal of the afternoon. The keeper caught the ball inside the net. The Captain continued to showcase her skills, providing an excellent assist to Malati in the 86th minute, who scored the fourth goal for the Juggernauts. Bala then found Anju with another brilliant pass in the 89th minute, and Anju calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to score the fifth and final goal for the Juggernauts.
Bala Devi was named the Hero of the Match for her outstanding performance. They will face Celtic Queens FC on May 10.
