Papua New Guinea grassroots & youth coaching courses locked in!

A host of MA Grassroots Coaching Certificate and MA Youth Coaching Certificate courses will be rolled out through the remainder of the year across seven locations in Papua New Guinea.

Six editions of each course will be on offer before the end of the year, with the goal of equipping coaches with the necessary tools to assist with programmes the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) aim to include in 2022.

Those programmes include football festivals, age–group competitions (football, futsal and beach soccer) and football national academies.

There is also a focus on creating awareness around the importance of coaching in a player’s formative years.

PNGFA coach educators Margaret Aka and Harrison Kamake will facilitate the courses with assistance from staff.

PNGFA Technical Director Paul Isorua, who plans and oversees course logistics, said quality coaches are key to player development from a young age.

“Many coaches want to coach senior football at local, regional and national level, but these workshops highlight that grassroots and youth football are a priority,” Isorua said.

“From past courses, coaches have openly expressed their commitment to working with kids in different age groups and this alone indicates to us that our objective is clear.”

Seven courses will take place in October, while November has five.

“We’ve refocussed and recreated a practical and workable pathway for coaches,” Isorua said.
