Participants benefit from landmark AFC Women Referees & Assistant Referees Selection 2024 course!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s drive to ensure its match officials continue to maintain their world-class standards reached a significant milestone when it conducted the AFC Women Referees & Assistant Referees Selection 2024 course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The course, which took place from February 19 to 22, saw 18 women referees and Assistant Referees from 14 AFC Member Associations (MAs) being evaluated on their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and physical abilities.

Conducted by the AFC’s Technical and Fitness Instructors, the initiative focused primarily on practical match performance sessions and video tests devised to elevate the technical capabilities of participants.

Two days of practical matches were scheduled for the participants, with eight teams invited to compete to ensure a highly competitive level of football. The Referees and Assistant Referees’ performances were evaluated to gain a thorough understanding of their fitness, decision-making and game management qualities.

Moreover, the match officials undertook a series of quizzes focusing on the latest Laws of the Game. They also had the valuable opportunity to refine their proficiency in the English language through a session facilitated by the British Council and honed their report-writing skills under the guidance of experts from the AFC Technical Instructors.

The landmark initiative, which ranged from fitness evaluation to match incident analysis, concluded with a constructive feedback session that saw a live exchange of information and ideas.

“Opportunities for women officials have increased tremendously over the last few years, the proof of which we have seen in the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and also at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™,” said AFC Advisor, Raymond Olivier.
