The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s efforts to maximize the potential of its Member Associations (MAs) marked a significant milestone when the 2nd AFC Women Coach Education Tutors Course 2023 concluded successfully in Bangkok on Friday.
Spanning five days, the course allowed 24 participants from 21 MAs to train and learn under the guidance of internationally-acclaimed coach educators.
Taking place between November 27 to December 1, the course provided an excellent opportunity for the coach educators to refine their skills and gain insights on how to better implement the AFC A and B diploma courses in their respective MAs.
Some of the major highlights included classroom sessions based on topics ranging from reality-based learning principles and football action language, to designing appropriate training sessions and defining different types of leaders.
These were complemented by practical sessions where the participants demonstrated their theoretical learnings on the pitch, under the expertise of AFC Principal Coaching Consultant Wim Koevermans and renowned Coach Educator Vera Pauw.
With the participants hailing from the length and breadth of the Continent, the course allowed the participating coach educators to exchange information on the various challenges and opportunities that are unique to their respective MAs.
Several match analysis sessions were also conducted to evaluate the match-reading capabilities of the participants, who also provided their feedback on several game-related practices such as suitable formations and ways to encourage more women to become tutors.
“With the fast growth of women’s football all over Asia, we need to develop more women coaches.” Therefore, we need more women coach educators as well.” Koevermans said. “We have to find ways to increase the numbers in Asia. “Better women coach educators, better women coaches, better women players.”
“For the coach educators to continue making a difference, we must constantly update ourselves with the latest techniques and best practices, and that is why it is so important to participate in these kinds of courses.”
