Peter Gulacsi extends RB Leipzig contract until 2026!

Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (34) will remain at RB Leipzig beyond the summer of 2025. Both sides agreed on an early contract extension for another year until 2026. This means that the 34-year-old will continue to be in the RBL goal for the next two seasons.

The Hungarian national keeper, who will take part in the 2024 European Championship in Germany with his home country in a few weeks, moved from Red Bull Salzburg to the trade fair city in the summer of 2015. Since then, the number one has made 302 competitive appearances for the Red Bulls. In 2022 and 2023, he won the DFB Cup with RBL.

RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder said, “In our squad planning, clarity in the goalkeeper position was one of the central decisions that we wanted to tackle before the European Championship. We have now made this decision with the contract extension of Péter Gulácsi and discussed it clearly and transparently with all parties involved.”

“Pete showed after his comeback that he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga and his saves have been instrumental in helping us reach the UEFA Champions League again.”

“He has earned an outstanding status at RB Leipzig in recent years. With his performances, his importance within the goalkeeper group, for the team and the club as well as with his closeness to our fans.”

“Pete has celebrated all the great successes with the club so far and has made a decisive contribution to this development. But it is just as remarkable how he has mastered one or two depths – not least his serious knee injury.”

“With over 300 games under his belt, he is already a legend in the club.”

Peter Gulacsi added, “The contract extension was my great wish. The path that the association and I have been taking together since 2015 is a very special one. I’ve celebrated great successes with RB Leipzig, such as the DFB Cup victories and winning the Supercup, but I’ve always felt the support of the club and the people here even in difficult times. These moments were extraordinary. My goal is to continue the joint success story with our great fans behind me.”

“I still have some really good years in me and still have a lot to do here. You could also see last year what potential there is in this team with this coaching staff and in this club as a whole. I’m already extremely looking forward to the new season and everything that’s to come.”

“My wife, my children and I also feel very, very comfortable in Leipzig. The city and the region have grown very close to our hearts and have become our second home. It was not only my wish, but the desire of my whole family to stay here. The contract extension is therefore not only a sporting decision for me, but also a decision of the heart.”

“I am very pleased to continue working with Frederik Gößling. Freddy and I are a very good, ambitious and well-rehearsed team. That’s also what makes the overall very good environment at RB Leipzig for me and offers the prerequisites to deliver the best possible performances.”
