Pune FC trash Dempo SC 4-1, wins the historic U-21 Bandodkar Gold Trophy!

The Pune FC Under-21s defeated Dempo SC U-21s by a 4-1 margin to lay their hands on the prestigious All India Bandodkar Gold Trophy organized by the Goa Football Association at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Tuesday evening.

A well attended match, witnessed almost by 3,000 fans, saw both the teams start the match cautiously, restricting the play mostly to the midfield. But Pune FC struck two goals in each session of play, with Dempo pulling a goal back in the second session.

The Pune FC skipper stunned not only the entire Dempo defence in the 14th minute, but left the supporters shocked with his 30-yard scorching right footer to give his side the lead. The Red Lizard’s came closely to further increase their lead in the 21st and 22nd minute through Ashique Kuruniyan whose strike from the edge of the box which missed the target narrowly and than a superb placement from inside the box, which was pushed to safety by Dempo keeper Ozen Silva.

The Junior Golden Eagles had a chance to level terms in the 23rd minute where Kapil Hoble was tackled by Pune FC stopper back Rajat Kumar just outside the penalty box, but Hayden Fernandes strike did not do any damage.

Minutes later Dempo substitute Germanpreet Singh shot landed into the gloves of keeper Anuj Kumar. Dempo keeper Ozen Silva was once again caught on the wrong foot in the 37th minute as Lalawmpuia Opia 25-yard blistering shot crashed into the far corner of the goal.

Just seven minutes into the second session Pune FC’s Ashique got hold onto a long ball from his defence, ran swiftly past the Dempo defenders and scored into the far corner of the goal for Pune FC’s third.

The best chance for Dempo came in the 53rd minute where Josley Dias shot rebounded off the post. But at the other end it did not take long for Pune FC to score their fourth goal where in the 62nd minute Sahil Panwar scored from the penalty spot after Jayson D’Souza brought down Lalwmpuia Opia inside the box.

Dempo finally managed to pull a goal back through Latesh Mandrekar in the 74th minute after Pune FC keeper Anuj Kumar had left his charge to tackle Germanpreet Singh.

In the 82nd minute Pune FC’s Sahil Panwar was then sent off by referee Parmanand Mandrekar for receiving his second booking on tackling Kapil Hoble and then in added time Dempo’s Jayson D’Souza was red carded for a second booking by the referee.

Pune FC carried away the winners cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh (100,000) plus the historic Bandodkar Gold trophy, while Dempo SC had to be content with Rs.75,000 from the hands of Adv Francisco D’Souza, Dy.Chief Minister of Goa.

Ashique Kuruniyan of Pune FC received the man of the match cash prize of Rs.5,000 from the hands of Jyoti Bandekar and Sameer Kakodkar.

Before the start of the finals commissioning of Outdoor Sports Arena Lighting of Existing Football Stadium at Duler, Mapusa, was done by Adv Francisco D’Souza (Dy. Chief Minister of Goa),in the presence of Glen Ticlo (MLA Aldona), Kiran Kandolkar (MLA Tivim), Sandeep Falari (Chairperson Mapusa Municipal Council), Marlene DeSouza (Vice-Chairperson Mapusa Municipal Council), Sudhir Kandolkar (Vice-Chairperson GSUDA), Elvis Gomes (Member Secretary GSUDA), Jagdish Hosamani (Chief Project Officer GSUDA), Clen Madeira (Chief officer Mapusa Municipal Council) and all Councilors.
