Aspiring German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig announced earlier on Sunday the contract extension of their Sports Director Ralf Rangnick until June 2021.
The 59 year old Rangnick had joined RB Football in July 2012 to be Sports Director of both RB Leipzig and FC Red Bull Salzburg. Since summer 2015, Rangnick is only in-charge of RB Leipzig having seen the club under his aegis come up from the Regionalliga (German Fourth Division) to the Bundesliga with Rangnick coaching the team in their promotion season in Bundesliga 2.
Ralf Rangnick is said to be behind the playing philosophy of RB Leipzig, which has grown under Austrian head coach Ralph Hassenhüttl as shown with a second place finish in their promotion year last season and UEFA Champions League qualification.
On his contract extension Ralf Rangnick said, “I am glad that my future lies in this great club, which has made a fantastic development and whose path, in my view, is far from over.”
“After exciting years of development, we have established ourselves in the Bundesliga and play a good role in our first international participation. Together with Oliver Mintzlaff and our team, I would like to further develop the club over the next few years.”
Rangnick ended by saying, “The decision to extend my contract prematurely is also a commitment to this beautiful city, in which I feel very well.”
