RB Leipzig and Lukas Klostermann (27) have agreed on a contract extension, keeping the defender at the club for a further four years. Klostermann’s contract was set to run out in summer 2024, but instead he can now look forward to what will be his tenth season in RBL colours.
Born in North Rhine-Westphalia, Klostermann joined RB Leipzig in summer 2014 from VfL Bochum. Since then, he has gone on to make 278 competitive appearances for the club (the fifth most in RBL history), winning promotion to the Bundesliga with RBL in 2016. During that time, Klostermann also made his senior debut for Germany and has lifted the DFB-Pokal twice, in addition to winning one Supercup title.
RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder said, “We’ve always stressed that a key personnel decision for us was getting Lukas Klostermann to stay at the club for as long as possible. We’ve managed to do just that right before the season restarts. Lukas is hugely important for the team and for the club, because he’s a great guy and a player you can always rely on. He’s very resilient and has been operating at a high level for a number of years.”
“The fact that Lukas has played every minute in four DFB-Pokal finals for RB Leipzig shows his quality and why he’s rated so highly. He’s a Germany international and has been hugely influential in the club’s journey over the past ten years or so. He’s also still only 27, which means he’s in his prime.”
“We take great pride in the fact that, in just three months, we’ve managed to agree contract extensions with Lukas Klostermann, Willi Orban, Kevin Kampl and Yussuf Poulsen. We’ve ensured that four key players who’ve been with the club for a very long time and who formed, and will continue to form the core of the squad, are going to stay on with us. It’s very special to have lads who’ve been with us every step of the way for a number of years still in the team.”
Lukas Klostermann said, “It’s a great feeling to know that our journey together is going to continue for the next few years. This summer marks my ten-year anniversary at the club. I’ve experienced and achieved a lot in my time at RB Leipzig and now the journey can continue.”
“Of course, there were things to consider, like perhaps a change of scenery after spending so long in Leipzig. That’s why I thought a lot about my next step with my family and eventually decided that RB Leipzig is still the right place for me.”
“The club and the management made it clear how much they rely on me here. It feels good to be praised like that. Everything here – the club, the city and the fans – is amazing, which is why I’m extremely excited to keep making history with RB Leipzig.”
