Ruckus Networks delivers superior Wi-Fi capability to Los Angeles FC!

Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company, today announced that Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) chose its indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi access points (APs) to provide fast, reliable connectivity in the Banc of California Stadium.

LAFC is committed to delivering an unrivaled fan experience at Banc of California Stadium, a world-class venue that includes a wide variety of concessions and top-notch technology such as wireless networking with unprecedented coverage. The Club needed back-of-the-house networks to support ticketing at the gates, along with point-of-sale applications and LAFC administrative requirements, plus exceptional guest Wi-Fi.

“We wanted seamless wireless technology that would set our venue apart from other stadiums,” said Christian Lau, Vice President of Information Technology for LAFC. “In terms of connectivity performance, it was not an easy stadium to design given the density of the venue and the number of required access points, but Ruckus Networks provided the AP solutions we needed to deliver a superior fan experience. Performance of the wireless technology consistently meets or exceeds our expectations.”

LAFC implemented 489 Ruckus APs, including the R710 indoor AP, designed for ultra-dense device environments like the inside enclosure of the stadium. In the bowl of the stadium, there are 314 APs, of which 38 are the Ruckus E510 outdoor AP with its low-profile external BeamFlex+™ antennas. This is especially important in the end zone standing areas where a slimmer design was necessary for safety. Rounding it out, Ruckus T610 outdoor APs were also installed in the concourse areas.

While the seating capacity of the stadium is 22,000, the wireless network was engineered for 70,000 users to accommodate multi-device users. The venue’s Wi-Fi has been averaging about 8,700 concurrent connections, meaning there is plenty of capacity for additional users. On average, users are experiencing speeds of 65M, with peaks of 100M+, with an on-field average 20M+.

“In high-density network environments like stadiums it can be difficult to deliver a consistent Wi-Fi experience, which is now becoming critical to fan attendance,” said Bart Giordano, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Ruckus Networks. “Working closely with the LAFC, we were able to engineer a smooth and stable wireless experience.”
