After winning the SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship in Bhutan, the Indian U-16 Girls National Team look to secure qualification in the 2018 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers which kicks-off on September 15 in Mongolia.
India have been drawn in Group B of the qualifiers alongside the hosts Mongolia, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Laos and face Hong Kong in their opening clash on September 15.
Ahead of the Qualifiers, Head Coach of the Indian U-16 Girls’ Firmin D’Souza sounded confident. “Our girls know this tournament has been one of the greatest hurdles India has faced in the past and are eager to face it in an effort to get past it and create history.”
“The team is certainly confident after winning the SAFF U15 Championship 2018. Every match is going to be a different challenge and we should have answers to all of them.”
For the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship qualifiers, the India Girls camped for a fortnight in the capital and will depart Indian shores on September 12. “It has been 14 days of gruelling hardwork to prepare for this journey and we hope to make every Indian proud with the brand of Football we will play in Mongolia,” added Firmin.
