Salgaocar FC Under-14 boys were crowned champions in the GFA Under-14 League 2016-17, by beating Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 7-0 in Cansaulim.
Salgaocar FC were the South Zone winners and CSM Taleigao were the North Zone Winners going into the final.
The Young Greens charged at their opponents from the start and got the first goal in the 2nd minute through Joswel Cardozo with a long range postage stamp finish. Just four minutes later Sherwin Abranches doubled the lead for the Greens again through a long ranger from just outside the box leaving the keeper no chance to save it. CSM Taleigao did not let the two goals trouble them as they kept fighting with good set up plays, but the back four of Salgaocar FC stood strong. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Greens.
On resumption Salgaocar FC made their first substitution by bringing on Jordan Borges who just took three minutes, the 38th minute, to make it 3-0 for Salgaocar FC. Celebrations did not settle and in the 42nd minute it was Rohan Viegas making it 4-0. Rohan got his second and Salgaocars fifth goal in the 48th minute, and completing his hattrick in style in the 53rd minute making it 6-0.
Substitute and local boy from Cansaulim, Anwil Costa, was brought into the action as he replaced Sherwin who added to the scoresheet with a powerful low shot as the match ended 7-0 in favour of Salgaocar FC.
With today’s victory, Salgaocar FC have won the GFA Under-14 League three years in a row.
