SC East Bengal appoint Mridul Banerjee as Team Manager!

SC East Bengal have appointed former Santosh Trophy-winning coach Mridul Banerjee as the team manager for the 2021/22 Indian Super League.

Mridul Banerjee will also assist the coaching staff as the second Indian assistant coach, along with former India captain Renedy Singh, who will continue in his role as the first team assistant coach.

With three decades of coaching experience that has seen him being associated with the likes of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Indian Arrows, India U-16 and India U-19 teams among others, Banerjee sounded thrilled about the dual role.

“It is always a matter of pride getting to work with SC East Bengal. This is a new role for me and I am ready for the challenge. I have enough experience in Indian football administration to lean on. Managing the team on and off the field is of utmost importance and I will try to ensure everything is in order,” said Banerjee who has worked with Delhi Dynamos in the ISL.

The AFC A-Licensed coach guided the West Bengal U-21 team to two successive championships in 2001 and 2002 and also led Mohammedan Sporting to a second-place finish in the Calcutta Premier League in 2016. As a player, Banerjee represented various premier division clubs in Kolkata between 1975 and 1988.

“I will also look to help the coaching team using my experience. The aim is to make the team better every single day. I know very well the sentiment of the fans and I have grown up in that environment. I can’t wait to get cracking,” he added.
