Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President met with Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) President Mohammad Yosuf Kargar to discuss the areas in which to increase the spirit of cooperation between the AFC and the AFF.
The AFC President congratulated President Kargar on Afghanistan’s qualification to the AFC U17 Asian Cup, marking the second successive occasion that the Central Asians will feature in the tournament.
Shaikh Salman also praised Afghanistan’s runners-up finish at the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship in 2019, which was the country’s first-ever appearance in the Final in any AFC competition.
At the same time, the AFC President further emphasised the importance of enhancing the women’s game in the country, adding that the AFC would support the AFF in organising women’s football competitions as part of efforts to strengthen and aid the development of women’s football.
Shaikh Salman said: “I would like to congratulate President Kargar on Afghanistan’s recent qualification for the AFC U17 Asian Cup, which further underlines the undeniable potential and promise of the game in the country.
“Football has the power to bring joy to people from all walks of life in the most challenging of circumstances and we hope to work closely with the AFF to find more opportunities to ensure the beautiful game continues to uplift and strengthen communities”.
The AFC President also explained the Confederation’s development programmes and technical and refereeing projects to develop the game in Asia, stressing that the AFC remained keen to widen the cooperation and partnership with all its Member Associations, including the AFF, to bring to life common objectives.
President Kargar conveyed his appreciation to Shaikh Salman for his leadership in uniting and guiding the Asian football family and reinforced the steadfast determination of the AFF to overcome great odds to ensure the continued progress of football in the country.
