Soccerex to honour Alan Rothenberg with Duncan Revie Award!

Former US Soccer Federation president, Alan Rothenberg, will receive the 2018 Duncan Revie Award as part of the opening ceremony at Soccerex USA, November 15/16 at Marlins Park, Miami. The award will be presented to Rothenberg by John Kristick, Executive Director of the successful United 2026 bid, in recognition of the immense impact he has had on the soccer industry in the US.

Rothenberg, in many ways, is the “godfather” of soccer in the United States. Serving as US Soccer Federation President for the best part of a decade, he oversaw the successful hosting of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, instigated the creation of Major League Soccer and played an integral role in the delivery of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. His vision and drive laid the foundation for the surge in soccer’s professionalism and popularity we are now witnessing across the country. Alan was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit in 2006 and inducted into the US National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007, and continues to play an important role in US soccer as chairman of Premier Parterships and managing member of the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee.

The Duncan Revie Award was created in 2016 to honour the late founder of Soccerex, Duncan Revie. Duncan’s vision and ambition helped to shape the soccer business sector for over two decades and his warmth and generosity endeared him to many around the world.

He was a soccer man through and through. As the son of the legendary Leeds United and England Manager, Don Revie, he was brought up in the soccer world; schooled in values he never lost sight of as the Soccerex brand grew. As he was fond of saying, “We need to look after football because the business will look after itself.”

To honour Duncan and the values he held so dear, The Duncan Revie Award was created to recognize individuals or organisations who, through their innovation and passion for football, have had a positive impact on the beautiful game. The inaugural award was presented to Sheffield FC, the world’s first soccer club, at the Soccerex Asian Forum in 2016 and last year the award went to Dutch soccer legend, Johan Cruyff when it was posthumously presented to Cruyff Football CEO and fellow Dutch international, Wim Jonk on Johan’s behalf.

Presenting the 2018 award will be John Kristick, President of Premier Partnerships and former Executive Director of the United 2026 bid team. The joint bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States was granted the right to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup shortly before this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia meaning FIFA’s showpiece tournament would be returning to US soil for the first time since 1994 when Rothenberg was US Soccer President.

How the industry in US has developed in that time and what the potential is for further growth across the Americas building up to and after 2026 are just two of the topics set to be discussed by industry experts at Soccerex USA. The programme features leaders from all of the region’s key organisations including Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, US Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro, Mexican Football Federation President Yon de Luisa, MLS Commissioner Don Garber, LigaMX President Enrique Bonilla, Caribbean Football Union President Randy Harris, NWSL Managing Director Amanda Duffy and USL President Jake Edwards to name but a few.

Soccerex USA will also showcase the expertise of both domestic and international clubs with the likes of Inter Miami CF, FC Cincinnati, Orlando City SC and Minnesota United joining experts from AFC Ajax, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, Club America, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United on the programme. LaLiga President, Javier Tebas, will also give a presentation on the league’s continuing commercial growth.

Soccerex USA is sponsored by the London Football Exchange, the world’s first fully integrated soccer club stock exchange and marketplace, and hosted in partnership with GACP Sports. The two day event will take place at Miami’s iconic Marlins Park and will comprise an exhibition showcasing the latest soccer business, performance and technology innovations.

Soccerex USA will include a programme of structured and informal networking events to connect delegates from across the USA and the rest of the world and it will feature a market leading conference agenda, with international experts tackling topics such as league expansion, women’s soccer, youth development, stadia technology, investment and new commercial opportunities.
