His return to Olympique Lyonnais
I am very happy, most people here know how much I love the club since 1999. At 52, coming home to Olympique Lyonnais is a dream come true. We tend to say that the club is not good today, that’s true, but the club is still there, with a lot of ambitions. Today, we have to be patient, do positive work. It is important to be positive and give time for the work to be done. I have already spoken with Laurent Blanc and things are clear between him and me.
His role as an advisor
As the President said, I’m here to advise on the evolution of teams. If I see things happening, on the side of the Academy or one of our other teams, I can anticipate it and help. As soon as I have the opportunity to travel, I will come and see the games.
What he will bring to OL
When I came to coach the attackers, it wasn’t the club that made me leave. I left to develop a coaching career, and it didn’t work. But everything I have experienced since then has allowed me to develop a vision of football. I have a lot of love for the club and I want to help it go back to what it was before. I will have total freedom to say what is wrong. I have no apprehension because this is the club I love and the people I love working with. I’m not worried, but I need time.
The situation of the club
We are coming out of a good streak of games without losing, Auxerre’s accident means there is still more to improve. We lost that game in 10 minutes. Today there is a squad, very young who worked to finish the season well. We qualified for a French Cup quarter-final against Grenoble and we can still qualify for a European Cup. Nothing is lost, you just have to see the positive side. Mentally, everyone is fine. We also saw that many fans came to Auxerre. I am positive about how this season is going to end.
