After having confirmed to have bought the telecast rights for the 2016 UEFA European Championships and the 2016 Copa América Centenario, Sony Pictures Networks India yesterday confirmed to have acquired the rights to broadcast the inaugural edition of upcoming Premier Futsal League in July 2016.
The eight-city franchise-based Futsal league would be played across India from July 15-24. Premier Futsal has former Portugal international Luis Figo as president and Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is a stakeholder and brand ambassador of the league.
As part of the agreement, Sony Pictures Networks India would broadcast all Premier Futsal League matches live in English, Hindi and Bengali on Sony Six, Sony ESPN and Sony Aath, while digital consumers would be able to watch streaming the matches live on Sony LIV.
“We are investing heavily in sports and building a strong sports entertainment portfolio. Besides cricket, basketball, tennis and fight sports, our comprehensive sports portfolio includes some of the best international football properties,” Sony Pictures Networks India Chief Executive Officer N.P. Singh said in a channel statement.
