South Korea trash India U-16 Girls 7-0 in AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers!

India U-16 GirlsThe Indian Under-16 Women’s National Team lost 0-7 against South Korea in their last match of the AFC Under-16 Championship qualifiers match at the Luneng Football Stadium in Wei Fang, China today, September 5.

The Indian Eves played compact Football keeping their shape, with determination in the opening minutes of the match and denied South Korea any leeway onto the Indian goal. Even the Indian Keeper, Monika Devi, was in inspired form and made a world class save in the 9th minute to reject Korea’s appeal for goal.

In the 15th minute however, Korea took the lead after their forward lobbed the ball over an onrushing Monika Devi to make the scoreline read 1-0.

The best chance for the Indian eves and mostly importantly, what could have been a turning point in the match came in the 26th minute when Soumya released Renu onto goal with an exquisite through ball which caught the Korean defence napping. Renu however could not get any power on her shot and the Korean custodian made an easy save to deny her.

South Korea found the net thrice before half-time as the India girls went into the tunnel trailing 0-4.

Changing over, the Indian eves were denied a penalty call early in the second half after Bannya’s cross found Renu in the box, but the latter met with a collision with the Korean defence line.

In the 60th minute, the Indian girls earned a free-kick on the edge of the box and Grace’s sublime strike rattled the woodwork. Korea Republic scored again in the 64th minute to extend their lead to five goals.

Korea scored again in the 70th minute and in the 84th minute as the full-time scoreline read 7-0 in South Korea’s favour.

South Korea had earlier defeated Philippines 7-0, Northern Mariana Islands 11-0 and Malaysia 13-0 to be clear winners of the group.

The Indian Eves, over the Course of the Qualifiers, have won two out of their four matches – against Malaysia and Northern Mariana Islands, while losing to Philippines and South Korea.
