Spanish defender Tiri announces departure from ATK Mohun Bagan!

Spanish defender Tiri has announced that he is leaving Kolkata giants ATK Mohun Bagan at the end of the ongoing 2022/23 season.

31 year old Los Barrios-born José Luis Espinosa Arroyo, better known as Tiri, started his football with Cadiz CF before at youth level and then continued at their ‘B’ team making only one appearance for the clubs senior team.

In 2012 he moved to Atletico de Madrid but again to a clubs ‘B’ team and in 2015 he was send on loan to India to play for then called Atletico de Kolkata in ISL-2. He returned to Atletico ‘B’ before rejoining Atletico de Kolkata for ISL-3 and winning the title with them in 2016.

After the triumph in India, Tiri joined Marbella FC in the first half of 2017 to play for them in the Spanish Segunda División B, the third tier of Spanish football.

He returned to join newcomers Jamshedpur FC in the second half of 2017 and spend three seasons with the Steelmen in which he went on to captain them but never reach the ISL playoffs.

In 2020, Tiri returned to Kolkata to rejoin what now was ATK Mohun Bagan but after a serious injury he missed the whole ISL-9 campaign due to a serious injury. He did play for the Mariners in Super Cup, but now leaves the club with speculation stating that he could remain in India with another ISL team.

Tiri said on social media, “Thanks ATK Mohun Bagan for these 3 years! Thanks to the fans for all your love towards me! I would have liked to say goodbye in a different way, but things happened quickly and in life you have to make decisions and believe in new opportunities! i will miss you! Thank you…”
